Gaming History: The Evolution From 2D Stick Figure Games About Killing Your Boss to 3D Stick Figure Games About Killing Your Boss

As the video game medium becomes more evolved, with games now having stunning 4K graphics, constantly updated content, and paradigm-shifting peripherals, it’s endlessly compelling to look back on the various stages of video games throughout the years. With the new action/brawler title Stick It to the Stickman from Devolver Digital, the question must be asked: how did we go all the way from meager, 2D stick figure games about killing your boss all the way to stunning, 3D stick figure games about killing your boss?

Flash games from iconic sites like Miniclip and Addictinggames set the template for video games being widely accessible to the masses, with dingy, yet effective 2D games like Whack Your Boss being the equivalent to early paintings on the cave walls of video game history. Sometimes it’s hard to look at games like Stick It to the Stick Man without wondering… how did we get here? Can we draw a straight line — like the torso of a stick figure — from these primitive 2D stick figure games about killing your boss to the modern, robust 3D stick figure games about killing your boss? Perhaps not.

Games like Interactive Buddy now seem an archaic relic of the past, with gamers being spoiled by much more complex, polished games about a doodle just going to fucking town on everyone after clocking in for the day. What seemed a watershed moment for flash games is now rendered a pathetic preview to the high-tech future of butchering stand-ins for your fellow employees.

If only we could go back in time to tell the children toying around in the school computer lab with free, shoddy games like Kill the Stickman Boss that one day, years in the future, gaming will be completely different — virtually unrecognizable to them — in that the game will be a bit more glossy and complicated. Would they even be able to comprehend the information?

Only time will tell what the future of gaming will hold. With every passing year, developers make leaps and bounds in technology, constantly pushing the limits of how stick figures can murder their workplace. It’s fascinating to watch game designers constantly challenge our perception of how a poorly-drawn man can dismember his employer.

This article is sponsored by Devolver Digital! If you wanna check out the most powerful 3D stick figure game about killing your boss, make sure to wishlist Stick It to the Stickman on Steam. Isn’t it amazing how far video games have come?

Man Eaten by Loot Crate That Was Actually a Mimic

GREENBELT, Md. — Tragedy struck this week as an unsuspecting local man was devoured whole by a mimic disguised as a shipment from subscription box service Loot Crate.

“Well, we arrived on the scene and found a wall of Funko pop figures doused in blood, so we knew it wasn’t your average animal attack,” described Officer Roberts of the Greenbelt Police Department. “The victim, or what was left of him, was next to what appeared to be a cardboard box with a Star Wars design on it. Upon closer inspection, we found that the box had about three rows of teeth and a long, slimy tongue. It almost took a deputy’s arm off before we subdued it.”

Loot Crate representatives have been quick to address the catastrophic mix-up. Spokeswoman Jan Spangler spoke on customer concerns at an emergency press conference.

“The recent disaster involving one of our mailings this past month is truly heartbreaking, but nothing more than a serious fulfillment mishap. The family and friends of the deceased have already been offered courtesy t-shirts depicting Grogu and the Mandalorian looking forlornly into a grave, which are up to the highest standards of our usual Loot Crate silkscreening quality,” announced Spangler. “In the meantime, while our team works tirelessly to work out this kink in the supply chain, please be wary of any mailing you receive from us and do not open any package which has a backwards logo or a slight discoloration.”

The mother of the victim, whose name has been withheld to protect his dignity as a Loot Crate subscriber, reflected on the brighter parts of his life.

“He always loved little toys and trinkets that don’t even really look good on a shelf, and above all he loved opening chests,” said the man’s grieving mother. “At least I can find some comfort in knowing that he passed away doing what he loved, surrounded by the vinyl figures of Zelda that meant so much to him.”

At press time, many onlookers at the Loot Crate press conference were heard expressing their surprise that the company even still exists.

Call of Duty MW2 Gun Game Guide: When is Gun Game in MW2?

Gun Game is one of the most played modes in each Call of Duty title. In MW2, Gun Game unfortunately was not present at launch despite being promised. This was a massive shakeup considering almost each prior title did include Gun Game at launch.

Luckily, Activision has addressed this and set a timeline for when the fan-favorite mode will return. We’ll dive into that, as well as how to access it below!

When Is Gun Game Coming to Call of Duty MW2?

As of now, Gun Game is scheduled to be added during Season 2 of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. It is outlined in the patch notes for Season 2 that the mode will be added to the playlist, however, that has yet to happen at least at launch.

This brings the question: when will Gun Game release in Season 2? A mid-season launch seems to make the most sense, especially as other modes like Hardcore, Grind, and Infected all are scheduled to launch this season as well. When the playerbase starts to dwindle a bit further into the season, Activision could release Gun Game in MW2 to keep interest high.

How to Play Gun Game in Modern Warfare 2

When Gun Game launches, you will be able to access it like any other mode in MW2. You simply will just need to filter for it when playing in multiplayer lobbies. You technically can play a variation of Gun Game in custom games already. However, this mode is not truly Gun Game.

To start a custom lobby, select the Free for All mode and head over to the game setup menu. From there, dive into the Gameplay settings and turn on Gun Game Weapons Swaps setting. After doing this, you can play a variation of Gun Game. Hopefully, playing this Gun Game-like mode for should tide you over until the real mode releases in a few weeks.

Call of Duty MW2 & Warzone 2 KV Broadside Best Loadout Guide

The KV Broadside is one of the weapons added during Season 2 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0. It is a great shotgun that packs a mean punch at close range and as such will suit those who want to get up close and personal with enemies. With certain attachments and perks, this shotgun can be made even better. So, here is the best loadout for the KV Broadside in MW2 and Warzone 2.0.

Best KV Broadside Loadout in MW2

  • The best KV Broadside loadout for Call of Duty MW2.Barrel: Gunner D20
  • Laser:  VLK LZR 7MW
  • Rear Grip: True-Tac Grip
  • Stock: Otrezat Stock
  • Underbarrel: VX Pineapple
  • Perk Package:
    • Base Perks: Scavenger and Overkill
    • Bonus Perk: Fast Hands
    • Ultimate Perk: Ghost
  • Lethal:  Frag Grenade
  • Tactical: Stun Grenade

Our pick for the best MW2 KV Broadside loadout focuses on improving the overall stats of the weapon; most importantly its damage, Aim Down Sight (ADS) speed, and accuracy. These are essential in all the multiplayer modes and can help you gain an edge. The VLK LZR 7MW, Otrezat Stock, and True-Tac Grip all contribute to the ADS speed and overall movement which is crucial for this shotgun. The Gunner D20 barrel improves the damage range and bullet velocity of the weapon while also increasing the accuracy from the hip. Finally, the VX Pineapple underbarrel also improves the hip-fire accuracy while also maintaining the hip recoil control and recoil steadiness.

The perk package includes Scavenger and Overkill as base perks. Scavenger helps in getting extra ammo from dead enemies while Overkill grants you an additional primary slot. For that slot, the Chimera is a great choice. Fast Hands is the bonus perk that helps to reload and switch weapons faster. Ghost is the ultimate perk that will keep you hidden under enemy radars. The lethal and tactical options are dependent on player preference but the Frag and Stun Grenade combos are always reliable.

Best KV Broadside Attachments, Perks, and Class Setup in Warzone 2

  • The best KV Broadside loadout for Warzone 2.Barrel: Gunner D20
  • Laser: VLK LZR 7MW
  • Magazine: 25 Shell Drum
  • Rear Grip: True-Tac Grip
  • Underbarrel: VX Pineapple
  • Perk Package: Weapon Specialist
    • Base Perks: Overkill and Strong Arm
    • Bonus Perk: Spotter
    • Ultimate Perk: Survivor
  • Lethal: Frag Grenade/ Semtex
  • Tactical: Stim

In the Warzone 2.0 KV Broadside loadout, the focus is still improving damage, ADS speed, and accuracy. All attachments in the Warzone 2.0 loadout are the same as the MW2 loadout, except instead of the stock, a 25 Shell Drum is added. This will help you in taking out enemies in quick succession. You can one or two-shot multiple enemies with this loadout and won’t have to worry about a thing.

The perk package you should go with is the Weapon Specialist package. This package will provide you with a second primary weapon slot via Overkill as a base perk. Strong Arm is also the base perk here, which will help in throwing your equipment further. Spotter is the bonus perk that helps in spitting enemy equipment behind walls, while Survivor as the ultimate perk will grant you one self-revive. The lethal option is still the Frag Grenade, and a Stim is useful as the tactical option.

Like A Dragon: Ishin! Nagakura Shinpachi Boss Guide

Like A Dragon: Ishin! is a historical-flavored spinoff of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios’ Yakuza series, but it behaves a lot like the mainline games. For instance, the difficulty spikes in-game come from boss battles, which start appearing immediately. For Ishin, that means Nagakura Shinpachi, Ryoma’s initiation into the Shinsengumi. He’s loosely based on Saito Sejima from the mainline games, whose fighting style is to hit very, very hard. Unprepared players could find themselves walking into a slaughter. Here are some tips to help players get the better of him.

Nagakura Shinpachi Boss Guide: Prep

like a dragon ishin ryoma nagakura faceoff

The best way to get an advantage over Nagakura is to come prepared. Players will stand a much better chance if they spend some time exploring the new area that opens before going to the Shinsengumi barracks. In particular:

  • The Clockwork House, for free training and medicines. Only the first few are doable at first, but participating in the challenges here is even worth style experience.
  • The Blacksmith, for weapon upgrades. Ishin is a lot more gear-dependent than other games in the series, so starting work on equipment upgrades early will give you a (literal) edge.
  • The Swordsman trainer. He’s directly to the north of Shinsengumi HQ, and enables new moves for both Swordsman and Wild Dancer styles.

There’s also a pharmacy nearby, which sells potent recovery items. Early-game, simple medicines should do, and you can buy them at the pharmacy if you’re low. There’s also a pickled goods vendor just outside the Shinsengumi. These work as recovery items as well if you don’t want to bother walking any farther.

Throughout the series, the easiest way to ensure victory is to bring lots of recovery items into tough situation. In this case, however, the fight starts without warning, and doesn’t provide a yes/no prompt like most critical points in the game. Don’t stress out if you get caught unprepared. It’s safe to “Load Save” after losing, since the game autosaves in the area transition to the Shinsengumi area. Come back later if you need extra prep.

Nagakura Shinpachi Boss Guide: Styles To Use

like a dragon ishin ryoma nagakura clash

In the Like A Dragon: Ishin Nagakura Shinpachi boss battle, Ryoma has access to four wildly different fighting styles, and they each perform differently against Nagakura. The key to victory is responding correctly to Nagakura’s attacks. Almost all of these are quick forward stabs, so the basic strategy is to sidestep his thrusts and counterattack. Sometimes, he does an overhead swing that hits to the side, but with enough distance, a sidestep can evade this attack as well.

In most cases, the Swordsman style is ideal for the fight. Unlike the other styles, it can block Nagakura’s attacks. It’s not a perfect solution. One of his attacks is a four-hit sequence that will break your guard on the third swing and hit on the fourth. Sidestepping is still the best defensive measure. But being able to block is still valuable here. If you get caught in a sequence of strikes by mistake, holding the block button can start guarding you even while being hit, minimizing damage taken. It can also block Nagakura’s special attack, a forward charge that’s a little harder to sidestep than his other moves. Plus, the range of Ryoma’s sword makes sidestep punishes a little easier. Evade, then use a regular three or four-hit combo for simple, reliable damage.

Brawler and Wild Dancer are usable here, but they’re both risky: Brawler requires the player to stay close to Nagakura, putting them at risk of being caught by his overhead swing, and Wild Dancer has a short dodge range, and low damage to boot. One good use for these styles, however, is to set up heat actions. Swordsman style doesn’t have reliable heat actions in the early game. Also, Brawler is better able to knock Nagakura down than Swordsman, enabling heat actions on grounded targets.

Training before the fight can enable a Wild Dancer technique to counterattack a sword-user for big damage. One method is to fight carefully with Swordsman, charge some heat, then switch to Wild Dancer and use the counter technique. It’s a powerful and easy-to-use ability, but it does less damage each time it’s used in the fight. Switch to something else after using it once or twice.

However, if you have no honor at all (understandable), the easiest way to beat Nagakura is to shoot him with Gunman. Normal Gunman shots are too weak to be useful, and Nagakura blocks most of them anyway. But equipping special ammo causes ridiculous damage to the unarmored Nagakura. The rounds given at the start of the game, with high damage but no extra effects, should suffice. Even so, this strategy still takes some caution. Bait his attack by running near him without locking on. As soon as he starts to swing his sword, run away, re-target him, and press the power attack button for a special ammo shot. He’ll block some of it, but not all, and the damage from special ammo is so great, it only takes a few.

If you do get stuck on the Like A Dragon: Ishin Nagakura Shinpachi boss, it might be a good idea to use the difficulty to learn the game. After I struggled on this battle, I had a very easy time on the next major fight. There’s a lesson here about learning and improving.

Cat Walking Across Your Keyboard During Game Just Trying to Keep You From Throwing

COLUMBIA, Mo. — While in the climactic moments of an Overwatch 2 competitive match, sources reported your cat innocuously ambled across your keyboard not to court your attention, but to stop you from throwing the game.

“You think I just want to be pet or fed, but I’ve seen you toss away easy wins by feeding the enemy kills,” your cat Kimchi explained. “Look, I’d love it if you rubbed the spot right at the base of my tail right now, but my main goal is to prevent you from rushing in there trying for an impossible triple kill when you’re just going to set back your team’s push until you respawn. Sure you swat me away from your monitor or set me back on the ground, but when I’m gone you realize that the other team’s Widowmaker had a perfect sightline into the choke point you were just about to mosey on through. You’re fuckin’ welcome.”

Players all around the world have begun to notice improvement in performance after taking their cats on as coaches.

“My cat Milo always loves to come sit on my lap or hop up on my desk whenever I’m gaming. I always thought it was because he was bored or just didn’t understand, but now I see he has better gamesense than I do,” Overwatch streamer Frank Kramer said. “Now I won’t even pop my ult until he gives his little ‘mew’ in approval. I used to choke when the game came down to the wire, but now that I listen to Milo I’ve gone from silver to diamond in less than a week.

At press time, a new study reported that service dogs will often bark to be let out during gaming sessions not for their own accord, but when they can sense you’re about to say something stupid on your Discord call.

Report: Energy Sword Out of Bullets

BLOOD GULCH — A new report revealed that an energy sword wielded by Master Chief ran out of bullets in the middle of combat, rendering the sword completely useless.

“I was in the middle of crushing this enormous flood of enemies when it ran out of bullets and just stopped working,” said Master Chief, stowing the sword and switching to his battle rifle. “I haven’t tried swinging it since it ran out of bullets, partly out of respect for the sword but mainly because it would be a waste of time. It’s not going to do anything if it’s out of bullets. Might as well just throw it on the ground.”

“I wish someone would invent a sword that didn’t need bullets; that would be great,” Master Chief said, blowing open an enemy with a precision headshot.

John Taylor, a weapons researcher at a local university, was confused upon hearing that the sword could no longer be used after running out of bullets.

“Wait, people just stop using the sword when the bullet counter runs out?” Taylor asked, staring blankly. “It’s a sword. Like, it’s still sharp. You can just swing it. I don’t understand the issue. Yeah, it may not do all the energy stuff when you use it, but you can definitely stab the hell out of someone with that thing. Why does it even have a bullet counter? I mean, what is it measuring? You can just keep swinging the thing even if it’s at zero.”

At press time, Master Chief reportedly ran out of bullets for his battle rifle. Sources say he continued fighting off enemies by using the rifle as a melee weapon instead.

Cool Driver’s Ed Course Uses Cruis’n USA Machine

CLEVELAND — A cool local driver’s education course holds the majority of its program inside of an old Cruis’n USA arcade machine, sources have confirmed.

“It’s important to gain experience before you go out there in the real world,” said Ray Hagan, owner of Hagan’s Driving School, which consists of the 1994 Midway two seater coin-op machine and a couple of desks in his garage. “And once you’ve logged your 20 hours in Cruis’n USA, everyday traffic seems so slow and boring. It’s like you’re driving on easy mode. Plus, if you think you want to be a bus driver, we’ve got you covered. You just have to pick the bus before we start.”

Graduates of the course praised the experience, as well as its low cost.

“I learned everything I needed to know in Ray’s course,” said Selena Greene, who recently got her driver’s license after attending Hagan’s school. “Hands on the wheel, being aware of my surroundings, driving a stick shift. I could’ve spent a lot of money and gone to Sears and drove a real car, but Ray taught me everything I needed to know right there in his garage, and it just cost me 30 bucks plus my own quarters. People think he picked some random racing game, but they’re wrong, it’s a really accurate depiction of tearing through neighborhoods all over America.”

“I had to take the driving test a few times,” she added. “But I think that’s just because I was so nervous.”

Contrarily, some employees from the DMV urged the public to seek out properly accredited driving instructors.

“I shouldn’t have to say this, but we can’t keep sending our employees out on road tests with people that have learned to drive on a 30-year-old arcade game in some guy’s garage,” said Laura Berman, an employee at the local Secretary of State office. “That game was fun as hell, but we can’t mistake it for a realistic simulation just because it blew our minds in the early nineties. And look, I’m not saying you should learn to drive on any video game, that’s a horrible idea, but if you do, shouldn’t you pick Gran Turismo or Forza or something? Certainly not Cruis’n USA.”

As of press time, everyone in Hagan’s neighborhood had grown troubled after seeing him wheel an old Police Trainer cabinet into his garage.

Ken Burns Releases 4,000-Part Tiktok Series on the Civil War

WALPOLE, N.H. —  Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns recently released his latest ambitious historical documentary, a 4,000-part series on the Civil War available in 30 second increments on TikTok.

“People today only soak in their information in short, concentrated bursts, and I needed to adapt to the times,” Burns explained. “I wanted to tell the full, in-depth story of the brutality and the familial betrayals of the Civil War, but even I have to admit that slow, creeping pans over stock footage with a velvety narration is boring as all hell. Now, if you’re bored during one of the 4,000 TikToks, you can always just glance at the videos of kinetic sand or Subway Surfers gameplay happening below it in tandem.”

The unorthodox documentary has already gone viral thanks to the TikTok algorithm, with users enjoying the educational series among their usual content.

“Usually I don’t have the attention span to sit down and watch one hour-long episode of a documentary, but 250 TikToks totaling three hours is much more digestible for one sitting,” said TikTok user Kelsey Bravely. “My algorithm is perfectly curated so I’ll get a funny dance between a mom and a daughter, then an obscure arts and crafts tip, then a beautiful, harrowing letter from the 1800s sent by a Union soldier to his betrothed back home. I also love to see people duet the Civil War Tiktoks, incorporating rousing speeches from Confederate generals into their experiences with their ex-boyfriend or a common situation at work.”

At press time, Burns’ representatives confirmed that the documentarian is preparing to start his next project, a comprehensive history of jazz music in a lengthy, 40,000 tweet thread on Twitter.

Warzone 2 ISO Hemlock AR Guide: How to Unlock ISO Hemlock

The much-awaited Call of Duty Warzone 2 Season 2 update is here with a host of new features, improvements, and changes to the game. One of the most notable additions to the latest update is the brand-new ISO Hemlock assault rifle, a powerful and enhanced rifle from Expedite Firearms designed to take both 5.56 and subsonic .300 BLK ammunition. If you’re wondering how to get your hands on this new firearm, here’s a comprehensive guide on unlocking Warzone 2’s ISO Hemlock AR.

Unlocking the ISO Hemlock in Warzone 2

How to unlock the ISO Hemlock in Call of Duty Warzone 2.

The only way to unlock the ISO Hemlock assault rifle is by completing the Sector B11 of the Warzone 2 Season 2 Battle Pass. To unlock the rewards in the Sector and claim the ISO Hemlock, players are required to earn four Battle Pass Tokens before using the final Token. Since Sector B11 is a part of the free Battle Pass, there’s no need for players to spend money to access the new Assault Rifle.

The most obvious way to earn Battle Pass Tokens is simply by playing the game. Every time a player levels up, they earn a token. Warzone 2 also offers a range of challenges that players can complete to earn Battle Pass Tokens. While it is possible to earn Battle Pass Tokens through gameplay, players also have the option to purchase tokens with real money.

ISO Hemlock Assault Rifle Stats

Here’s a look at the ISO Hemlock AR stats for Call of Duty: Warzone 2:

  • Platform: ISO
  • Weapon Class: Assault Rifle
  • Max Level: 27
  • Magazine Capacity: 30
  • Reserve Ammo: 60
  • Fire Modes: TBA

After unlocking it, the ISO Hemlock will become a new option among many other Assault Rifles available in Warzone 2. It has the advantage of being able to use two types of ammunition and also having both small and extended magazines available.

This makes it more versatile when building Loadouts. If you prefer the damage profile of the M4, Lachmann-556, and STB-556, you can use 5.56 ammunition with the ISO Hemlock.
