Sea Of Thieves PS5 Is There Crossplay And Cross-Progression

Sea of Thieves finally arrives on PlayStation 5 this month, and more details have emerged explaining how the game handles cross-platform play and cross-progression. Having an account with Microsoft is a basic requirement, but this enables multi-platform functionality.

UPDATED April 30

Sea Of Thieves PS5 Release Date And Time

Sea Of Thieves PS5: Is There Crossplay?

Crossplay, or cross-platform play, is simply the ability for a player on one platform to matchmake and play with players on an entirely different platform. Sea of Thieves has confirmed that cross-play is supported on launch, allowing for a cohesive playerbase spread across PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Sea Of Thieves PS5: Can Crossplay Be Disabled?

Yes, there are PlayStation-only Sea of Thieves servers: crossplay can be disabled entirely on PS5, allowing players to game exclusively with their fellow PlayStation users.

Sea Of Thieves PS5: Is There Controller-Only Crossplay?

Crossplay on Sea of Thieves PS5 and other platforms can also be restricted based on input method, either controller, or mouse and keyboard. This allows console gamers with controllers to play exclusively with each other, regardless of whether they’re on Xbox or PlayStation 5. This functionality should also filter out any players using officially sanctioned mice and keyboards on their consoles.

The DualSense controller gets tailored support for haptics, adaptive triggers, as well as the built-in mic and speaker.

Sea Of Thieves PS5: Is There Cross-Progression?

Cross-progression is the ability for a player to continue their game from exactly where they’ve progressed, regardless of platform. Sea of Thieves fully supports cross-progression on PS5, by linking PlayStation and Microsoft accounts. Previously created characters can be shared across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Progress that will be shared includes:

  • Commendations
  • Cosmetics (with the exception of a handful of platform exclusives)
  • Twitch Drops
  • Gold
  • Doubloons
  • Ancient Coins

The platform exclusivity of certain cosmetics and items goes both ways: the PS5 pre-order and Closed Beta bonuses cannot be accessed on Xbox or PC, though they are fully visible by all players.

Finally, most completed Achievements, whether on Xbox or Steam, will automatically unlock their corresponding Trophies on PS5, as soon as players login for the first time. Certain other unspecified Trophies may need to be replayed for them to count correctly.

That’s everything there is to know about the three Sea of Thieves pre-order editions for PlayStation 5.

Sea Of Thieves PS5 Release Date And Time

Six long years after its initial release, Sea of Thieves is finally coming to a Sony platform, specifically the PlayStation 5. The multiplayer masterpiece from developer Rare has been exclusive to publisher Microsoft’s Xbox console family, and PC ever since its release in 2018. That ends with the upcoming release date for the game on a Sony console in April.

Sea Of Thieves PS5 Release Date And Time

Sea Of Thieves PlayStation 5

Sea of Thieves will unlock concurrently globally, at 9 AM GMT/UTC. Here are localized times for major regions:

Sea Of Thieves PS4 Release Date And Time

Sea Of Thieves Spirits
Sea Of Thieves Spirits

Sadly, PlayStation 4 players are being excluded from this Rare celebration, as no plans have been announced to release the game on last generation Sony hardware. This is puzzling, no doubt, since Sea of Thieves was released on the Xbox One, which was the generational counterpart of the PS4, and ran quite well on the aging hardware.

Sea of Thieves itself is not a very graphically demanding game, with a cartoonish art style, and a poly count that’s certainly lower than most photorealistic games already on PS4.

Sea Of Thieves PS5 Developer Milestone

Sea Of Thieves Glowy
Sea Of Thieves Glowy

The release of Sea of Thieves on PlayStation 5 is also a milestone of sorts for long-running developer Rare, as it will be the first game from the studio to ever make it onto a Sony console.

Going by Rare’s ludography, the studio has been around since 1986, and has released games on many major and minor consoles, but never a PlayStation, across hardware generations. Sea of Thieves is certainly a great game to mark the occasion, but here’s hoping that more of Rare’s back catalog, as well as its future endeavors, make it to present and future PlayStations.

Closed Beta Access is exclusively available to players that pre-order ANY of the Sea of Thieves editions for PlayStation 5 on the PlayStation Store:

https://store.playstation.com/en-in/concept/10008884/

For a complete breakdown on the contents of each edition check out our guide:

Sea Of Thieves PS5 Closed Beta: Is There Crossplay?

Crossplay will not be available during the Sea Of Thieves PlayStation 5 Closed Beta. This is so that novice PlayStation pirates can have a pleasant learning environment, rather than going up against seasoned sea lords with years of experience under their peg leg.

Sea Of Thieves PS5 Closed Beta Participation Bonus

Any player that simply logs-in to the Closed Beta on PlayStation 5 during its duration will automatically earn the following cosmetic items to their account:

  • Dauntless Adventurer Title
  • Dauntless Adventurer Sails

This will then carry over onto the full game as part of your cosmetics collection to show off your early bird status.

A bonus ten levels of Renown towards Season 12 progression will also be awarded, but it is unknown what the play requirements are for that, if any.

Sea Of Thieves PS5: Will Closed Beta Progress Carryover?

It’s unknown whether Sea Of Thieves PlayStation 5 Closed Beta progression will carryover to the full game, but it is very unlikely.

Yes, Closed Beta progress does carryover to the full game on launch. The beta runs during Season 11, and all rewards earned during this time will be retained, including:

  • Renown
  • Currency
  • Cosmetics
  • A participation bonus of an additional 10 levels of Renown towards Season 12

Trophy unlocks will be disabled, but not their required progression, which will be tracked and carried over only when Sea of Thieves officially launches on PS5.

Sea Of Thieves PS5 Open Beta Date

No announcements have been made with regards to an Open Beta test for Sea of Thieves on PlayStation 5. It’s not outside the realm of possibility though, since there is an interval of about ten days between the end of the Closed Beta and the start of the Sea of Thieves Early Access period on PS5.

Success of Fallout Series Prompts Amazon to Develop Its Own Nuclear Weapons

CULVER CITY, Calif. — Amazon has reportedly begun production on its own line of nuclear weapons following the success of its Fallout series, according to sources already in underground bunkers.

“We have a culture that allows the best ideas to rise to the top,” explained Kenneth Hanson, Head of Amazon’s new Nuclear Division. “So many people are excitedly replaying the Fallout games because of our show, we figured that we could use the hype and show viewers how close we could get to a Fallout wasteland in real life. We’ve made some headways on developing an actual ‘Fat Man’! We even have a growing waitlist of Prime members who have pre-ordered Amazon’s new tactical nuclear catapult.”

Many Prime members say they are eagerly awaiting the new line of “Amazon Basics” weapons so that they can finally live out their dreams of traversing the radioactive wasteland of America.

“I’m so excited! I’ve been playing Fallout since Fallout 3 came out. I always loved that you could get a weapon that would level an entire town full of people. Now I can try it out in real life! While I wait for my new Fat Man Nuke Launcher, I’ll be wearing my Vault 33 vault suit (shout out to Prime’s two day shipping!) and collecting all the bottle caps I can!” said Prime member vaultboy101.

Another Prime member, dpeters1968, praised the simplicity of joining the waitlist and ordering their own nuclear weapons.

“I saved 15% by buying one every month on a subscription plan,” dpeters1968 said. “I did splurge a bit and also ordered the world class nuclear physicists to come and assemble it for me. Totally white glove.”

Not all members on the waitlist were excitedly awaiting their Prime orders, though.

“I can’t believe this is allowed. Who let them do this? Why can Amazon just make these? I mean, I’m buying one because they’re cool as hell but like I’m not happy about it!” commented Prime member savethebees221.

At press time, Amazon executives could not be reached for comment from their various undisclosed underground vaults. Sources fear they have already been cryogenically frozen with 1% of the American population.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Update Patch Notes April 30

UPDATED April 30

Patch Notes – April 30th, 2024

Here are the Patch Notes for April 30th, 2024.

The following notes are for our upcoming, April 30th, 2024 patch. It is scheduled to begin rolling out on console and PC at roughly 8AM EDT.
Players will be able to purchase the Sissy Wildflower Outfit for $2.99 USD.

For players who have reached Level 99, we have our free Blackout Cosmetics releasing this day, as well. The Level 99 Blackout Cosmetic is an all black version of a characters base outfit with two exceptions, Virginia and Leatherface. Virginia will receive a Blackout Cosmetic in the future. Leatherface will not have an outfit; instead, he will have an all black chainsaw called Oil Slick. Players can expect future Leatherface cosmetics to be similar to that of Nicotero Leatherface. While the whole Family is the focus of our game, Leatherface is the figurehead and the face of the franchise. From the mask to the apron and every stitch between, his cosmetics should reflect that icon status, without altering the elements that make up the whole.
If you're already at level 99, the Blackout cosmetics will be automatically unlocked for you after the update. Thank you for spending so much time in Muerto County with us!

The patch will address the following issues:

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre Crossplay Guide: Is it Cross Platform?

Those are the patch notes through April 30 for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Open Letter: We, the Gamers, Demand Math Blasters Be Added to Xbox Game Pass, or Else

Dear Phil,

Another month has passed and the PC smash hit Math Blaster Episode I: In Search of Spot has still not been added to Game Pass. Microsoft continues to spit in the face of fans by refusing to include the sci-fi classic. Game Pass launched seven years ago – enough is enough. From this moment forward, we will be canceling our $10/month subscription. We intend to make you sweat through your vintage video game t-shirts until you have no choice but to rectify this Math Blaster injustice.

Math Blaster Episode I: In Search of Spot is a classic action game filled with aliens, space fights, and tough math equations. After your companion Spot is abducted by aliens, you are thrust into a space-trotting adventure that contains more narrative depth than any of the Assassin’s Creed games present on Game Pass. It even outshines the shooting of Halo Infinite, which also doesn’t even contain math problems in between sequences. Is this what modern gaming has become?

Don’t tell us Microsoft can’t afford Math Blaster. We saw the Bethesda and Activision Blizzard acquisitions and the billions you spent on games that can barely muster a 7 out of 10 from IGN.

We are tired of going unheard. We don’t know what you have against Math Blaster or the Math Blaster fan base, but your silence on the matter is deafening. If you wish to keep receiving our $10/month for Game Pass, the following demands must be met:

  1. You must wear a Math Blaster T-Shirt in public before June 3, 2024. It must be fully on and you cannot be wearing a hat or sunglasses to try and hide your identity.
  2. Math Blaster Episode I: In Search of Spot must be added to Game Pass (both for the Xbox and PC).
  3. You must announce a brand new Math Blaster trilogy (it doesn’t have to ever see the light of day, you just have to announce it and then slowly let it die, like you did with Scalebound).
  4. Sit down with a Hard Drive reporter to discuss why you have been so reluctant to embrace Math Blaster yet were ok with Redfall.
  5. Mail Hard Drive a personal apology letter along with 1,600,000 unmarked Microsoft Points.

You have until Noon PST, June 3, 2024 to meet these demands. If you do not, we will destroy Game Pass $10 at a time.

Signed,

The Hard Drive Team

NEW – Animal Encounters

  • Animal Encounters are an upgrade to walkthrough habitats for a selection of species that are suitable for guest interactions. While in a habitat with Animal Encounters set up, guests can leave the path and wander through the entire habitat. If they are near an idle animal, guests can approach and interact with it. Interactions may see guests get up close to an animal or directly pet it. After an interaction, guests will want to wash their hands at a Hygiene Station in the habitat, which is available from the facilities browser. Guests will be unhappy if there are no free Hygiene Stations available, so players must ensure enough capacity is provided.
  • Habitats can be turned into Animal Encounters via a new tab in the habitat's info panel. The habitat must fulfil the following conditions before guests can make use of it:
    • Guests can enter the habitat via a guest gate
    • No dangerous animal is present
    • An interactable animal is present
    • At least one Hygiene Station is present
  • The Zoopedia will now detail to what extent guests can interact with animals:
    • Can interact with this animal in Animal Encounters
    • Can walk through habitats without interactions
    • Will flee from this animal

  • MODDING/BUGFIX: Removing a game mode mod while there was an active run with it could make the game crash or behave weirdly
  • MODDING/BUGFIX: Pressing "Install mods..." in mods menu would take one back to the main menu
  • MODDING/BUGFIX: EntitySerializer couldn't always update entities on hot load changes
  • MODDING/BUGFIX: Fixed a warning on game start if MaterialAreaChecker.material2 is not set
  • MODDING/BUGFIX: ModSettingGetNextValue returned setting key if no next value is set for the setting (now returns nil)
