WWE News: Becky Lynch’s Contract Set to Expire SOON

WWE News: Women’s World Champion Becky Lynch has reportedly not signed a new deal, and her contract is set to expire shortly.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Lynch has only around three weeks remaining on her current deal.

“Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has confirmed that Lynch is still on her previous contract, and has not signed a new deal, despite being Women’s World Champion” the site reported.

“There have been ongoing conversations regarding a new deal. However, as things stand, Becky Lynch’s contract with WWE is up in roughly three weeks” Fightful concluded.

WWE News: Becky Lynch contract news

As of writing, Lynch is set to defend her title against Liv Morgan at the upcoming WWE King and Queen Ring event.

KOTR and QOTR is controversial as it will be taking place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a country that has been constantly accused of ‘sportswashing’ its image in recent years with boxing, MMA and pro wrestling events.

We do not currently know if Lynch is likely to retain her title at the event, but it will certainly be telling of whether or not she has signed a new deal at that point.

Although Lynch’s husband Seth Rollins has already signed a new deal with the company in recent weeks, there’s no guarantee that she will remain with the company. Lynch is of course a mother and may decide to take time off to spend with her daughter Roux before returning to WWE or venturing elsewhere to the likes of AEW, New Japan or the Indies.

WWE News: Company Wants to ‘Mimic’ Crowd in France for Entrance

WWE News: WWE reportedly wants to try and get crowds to ‘mimic’ an entrance for a Superstar going forward.

Jey Uso got a massive reaction from the WWE Backlash crowd in Lyon, France, and according to a new report from Fightful Select, the company wants to try and get crowds to recreate that moment going forward.

WWE News on Jey Uso’s Entrance

“Those that Fightful Select’s Corey Brennan spoke to in WWE production note that Uso’s reactions were received incredibly well within WWE, with the company planning to heavily push fans towards mimicking the Lyon crowd for Jey’s entrances in the future” the site reported.

“We are told that the crowd lighting will continue to be dimmed during Uso’s entrances and any examples of Uso’s theme being played in the mainstream will continue to be showcased on television” Fightful added.

Whether or not the company are actually able to replicate the success of that moment going forward remains to be seen, mainly because crowds in Europe tend to be more rowdy and excited during shows as PLE events are so few and far before over there.

Console Startup Sounds Ranked by How Well They Cure My Depression

There’s nothing quite like escaping the daily dread and anxiety of modern life than with video games. Growing up alongside the flourishing console era has rooted core memories of classic gaming systems in my nostalgia-hungry lizard brain. Today, as an anxious and depressed adult, those memories remain as tiny pockets of serotonin ready to be popped like the pimples I am somehow still getting. Have these startup sounds stood the test of time, or has my aged pessimism gotten the best of me? This is every console startup sound ranked by how well they cure my depression.

#17 Wii U

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qs8P3DDmcDM

Who at Nintendo thought this was a good idea? How does the cross between a submarine sonar with a bluetooth speaker connected sound give me the slightest excitement to play video games? I’m here to get my gamepad on, not hunt for the Red October.

#16 Game Boy/ Game Boy Color

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixuNEGDIuIo

Too short! I don’t give a shit if this is the revolutionary handheld console that kickstarted a generation of portable gamers on the go. I need more than the two notes that could easily be confused for a Super Mario coin-collecting sound.

#15 PSP

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulb6Ic4517g

The PSP needs to make up its mind. Are you a ‘beep beep boop boop boop’ kind of console, or are you the jovial plucking of an acoustic guitar? Your indecisiveness scares and confuses me.

#14 Xbox

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsCYkWCA5KE

Jesus Christ! What the hell just happened? The Xbox’s startup sound feels more like an experiment gone wrong than a video game console. This is what turned Norman Osborn into the Green Goblin, and it’s living inside my Xbox? Hell no. I’m not gonna sleep well for weeks after hearing that.

#13 PlayStation 4

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKcaUIMz0J8

The older I get, the less nostalgia I feel for the modern console startup. The uninspired PlayStation 4 sound is giving corporate “we’re all family here” vibes. I want to be dazzled when I boot up the PS4 not patronized like I just punched in for my Last of Us shift.

#12 Nintendo Wii

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lJ6HUTCt1U

In a total 180 from Nintendo’s previous console, the Wii’s startup sound reminds me of my own mortality. The purgatory of video game consoles, the Wii’s minimalistic, white on white aesthetic posits an omniscient observer watching me swing a little stick around in my living room.

#11 PlayStation 2

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9Ln-qyvX_I

You’re falling into a dimension of ascending rectangles and ominous purple fog. The PS2’s opening sound and animation is more reminiscent of a 5 Gum commercial than a video game console. The sweeping synth melody may remind one of the vast nothingness that is waiting for us after death, but the punctuating swoosh at the end is somewhat comforting. Death is coming, but it’s not here yet. Now let’s play Jak and Daxter!

#10 Xbox 360

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIuNrejw4EA

For an entire generation of nostalgia hungry gamers, the Xbox 360 sound is less of a console startup noise and more of what you have to get through before Halo 3 starts.

#9 PlayStation 3

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho4z2_22pU4

The full orchestral welcome that the PS3 gives us feels a little out of place. I’m here to play Red Dead Redemption not meet the Queen. Hearing classical music before playing a video game is just a reminder of the productive, sophisticated choices you could’ve made before you settled on Ratchet and Clank.

#8 Xbox One

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZuN3Wse1DU

Short, sweet, and to the point. Too bad Microsoft probably laid off the person who made this.

#7 Game Boy Advance

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_ZD3FxMcvQ

Initially, the arpeggio of notes that kick off the Game Boy Advanced opening screen seems to be the same blueprint as its predecessor, but the final twinkle elevates the entire composition. The whimsical conclusion lifts my spirits more than most human interactions. Like my Game Boy just winked at me.

#6 PlayStation 5

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_6M31kHTzk

I’m not depressed hearing the PS5’s startup noise, but is that a complement to the sound itself, or am I just happy to be playing with my sparkly new toy? Recency bias aside, the confetti-like particles flying across the screen feels like a little surprise birthday party, something my friends would never remember.

#5 Sega Dreamcast

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOsw-Au9JCo

The Dreamcast’s tranquil startup puts my mind at ease. Unfortunately that zen calmness is shattered when the next thing I hear is, “THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD”

#4 Nintendo Switch

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmRNnOMdOvU

The reverberating snap that initiates the Switch’s bootup affects me like a trigger phrase waking up a sleeper agent. Who has time to be depressed when the clickety clicks of the joycons stimulate my small monkey brain like a fidget spinner to an 8th grader.

#3 Sega Genesis

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxOEPBO4OqA

“Seeegaaa” The simplicity of the heavenly chorus that initiates this console is what I assume the angels sing as we approach the Pearly Gates.

#2 GameCube

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksZh-FHuKpk

While I’m sure that Nintendo’s intention with the GameCube’s startup sound was a whimsical flourish of notes, the reality sounds more like a very anxious cat was dropped onto piano. Thankfully, the mental image of that is enough to make me forget about my life for a little while.

#1 PlayStation

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qg0BvV0HE4s

Epic. Awe inspiring. The PlaySation startup sound gives me purpose. It’s there for me on my good days and my bad ones, triumphantly welcoming me into the cyberspace of tomorrow (circa. 1995).

Abiotic Factor Update Patch Notes May 12

UPDATED May 13

Hotfix 0.8.0.9915 May 12

Sandbox Durability Fix and More!
Salutations, colleagues!
We have deployed a small hotfix to address some issues that have been reported. Big thank you to everyone submitting feedback and bug reports!
Please be sure to update your game and dedicated servers.
The version at the bottom of your screen in-game should read “0.8.0.9915”.

Repairing Items

  • Fixed a major issue with Sandbox Item Durability Multiplier which was mishandling some values and not being properly accounted for in all transactions, such as crafting and salvaging. All durability has been switched to use a new, less volatile system, which will allow servers to change this setting in the future without their items having greatly inflated numbers and without being created in a broken or damaged state.
  • NOTE: Saves currently using high durability multiplier values may find their items are now exceptionally high values. The easiest way to solve this is to either destroy/salvage that item or simply enjoy the new inflated value. All further crafted and salvaged items should have the correct values, however.
  • Hammers now repair a percentage of the furniture’s total health, rather than hit points. This means that repairs now take a more consistent amount of time across various objects, and are consistent regardless of Durability Multiplier Sandbox settings.

Server Browser Changes

  • The Server Browser now shows up to 10,000 servers instead of 1,000. Thank you to every scientist who made this a problem we needed to solve!
  • Entering a server password will now properly censor the password as it is being typed to help protect our scientists from prying eyes. There is a button to show the password, but be sure to not press this while streaming!
  • We’ve updated the Steam Server Version, meaning that servers from previous updates will no longer show in the Server Browser. Please update your Dedicated Servers if you want them to show in the Server Browser!

General Patches

  • Time no longer passes while in the Introduction, meaning that new scientists will no longer be seemingly trapped on the elevator for hours on end.
  • Our stealthiest scientists are no longer able to stealth-roll in their sleep. You’re good but you’re not that good!
  • Cement Bag Walls are no longer anomalously reproducing and now return the same amount of cement required to craft them.
  • Scientists can no longer find themselves getting stuck in that one spot under the stairs in Silo 3. Thanks for the reports!
  • Scientists will no longer be trapped by opening a shutter below a vent path in the Manufacturing West Garage.
  • IS-0178 variants have begun appearing more frequently in the Mycofields.
  • Item Stands are now categorized as Furniture! Surprise surprise.
  • Fire Suits have had a correction to their shiny material.
  • IS-0139 no longer glows white, instead of its normal color.
  • Fixed a visual issue with the shiny bits on The Order.
  • Removed collision from Healing Briefcases which could cause scientists to get stuck or dropped through elevator floors.
  • When scrapping a weapon with ammo inside it, the ammo will now attempt to go into your scientist’s inventory rather than quietly fall onto the floor and getting lost.
  • Vacuums no longer cause recoil when firing. Don’t worry, the suck is still just as powerful.
  • Wristwatches got a bit of a visual upgrade.
  • Deployed Antelight Plants will no longer block movement.
  • SMGs now have sound effects when being reloaded.
  • The Mega Couch now has its own fancy icon in your inventory.

That’s all for this hotfix. Now…
Onward to science!

Hotfix 0.8.0.9906 May 10

Recipe Unlock Fixes

Hello!
We've deployed a small hotfix to correct some issues with the last update. Due to some silly science, recipes were not unlocking for players who were deeper into the game. Thanks for your patience and please update your game and servers accordingly.
The new version at the bottom of your game should read "0.8.0.9906".
  • Item Stand recipe should now be obtainable.
  • Any recipes involving items that were previously picked up should now be obtainable by picking up, interacting with, or shuffling those items again. (This will affect certain new food recipes and Walkie-Talkies as well.)
  • Fixed Agriculture Perk "Prudent Plucking" no longer working as intended.

As there was some confusion, the primary new recipes are as follows:
(spoiler tagged in case you still want to discover them on your own)
Walkie-Talkies:
  • 1x Phone
  • 1x Metal Scrap
  • 1x Keyboard
  • 1x Tech Scrap

Item Stand:
  • 1x Wood Plank
  • 1x Screws

Cheese Curd (it's a soup):
  • 1x Gel
  • 1x Milk Sac
  • 1x Hydrochloric Acid

Okay, that should about do it. Onward to science.

[v0.8.0.9904] – “The First Week” Update May 10

You'll know you're on the most up to date build if the version number above matches the one at the bottom of your screen while in the main menu and in-game. If your game hasn’t automatically queued an update, verify your game files!

v0.8.0.9904 Hotfix Patch Notes

Customization Changes:

  • New Fabric: 'Launch', celebrating a very successful first week!
  • Dr. Janek went down into the Anning Containment Block and hasn't been seen since. If you manage to find him worse for wear, please recover his Containment-level ID Card.

Facility Changes:

  • Several changes have been made to the Helmholtz pathing to make it a bit more obvious.
  • IS-1057 has been spotted in this area, please be cautious and remember to wash your hands if you come into contact with it.
  • The keypad in the Labs Control Center that accesses the Helmholtz Lift is now just a regular button.
  • Made a certain button in Dirac a bit harder to miss.

Gameplay Changes:

  • Officer Warren has heard your feedback and installed a mechanism to disable the auto-timer for the Security Shutters on Level 2. Unfortunately, Warren is an incompetent fool and it appears to be broken. Perhaps you can fix it, instead.
  • Scientists wearing suits will now feel a bit more like they are indeed in a stuffy suit, with a hazmat frame showing around their view and some breathing audio to boot. This breathing is disabled if the Misophonia option is ticked.
  • Added Drop Item hotkey in Inventory (G) for those large-cranium inventory managers.
  • Pinned Recipe items will now highlight in gold when viewed on the ground/in world to better indicate their coveted status.
  • This feels like a good time to remind Twitch streamers they can unpin recipes from the Crafting Menu at any time if their HUD is feeling a bit cluttered.
  • Added some logic to show holster/block item action prompts on HUD when using and holstering off-hand shields.
  • The Medium Garden Plot now uses water more efficiently.
  • Salvaging items will no longer repair the base items but instead trade the durability from the parent item.
  • Crafting a broken item from a broken item will no longer repair the item and will instead transfer the durability of the primary item in the recipe.
  • Security Pistol and Security Pistol FL have received a slight increase to their durability. This may not take effect on previously found/crafted items.
  • Many Compendium tweaks, including removing some entries that cannot currently be accessed.
  • Optimized netcode when firing weaponry, especially full-auto weaponry.
  • Jiggled around some graphics sliders to eek out a couple more frame rates.

Entity Changes:

  • IS-0139 now has an animation when netted.
  • Security Robots now have more correct attack ranges, particularly for their behind 180-spin attack.
  • CAUTION: Security Robots are no longer intimidated by the presence of a Crafting Bench when attempting to exit their pod.
  • Fixed Peccary sliding around during their charge.
  • Fixed Peccary exploding after they are dead.
  • Reduced tendency for enemies to get stuck on wooden crates.

Item & Recipe Changes:

  • Thule turned off an electrical conductor in the Labs, which was pulling some extra electrons used by your Electrothrower. The Electrothrower now does 18 damage per strike, down from 20, and now has a slightly lower chance to stun targets.
  • The Electrothrower can no longer accrue Accuracy XP, because let's face it, you're not really aiming this thing.
  • Fire, Bleeding, and Electric damage can no longer stagger enemies on their own (stuns are still a separate mechanism, in this case.)
  • The Makeshift Headlamp is now easier to craft.
  • The Makeshift Headlamp now has 700 battery, up from 300.
  • Slightly reduced the weight of all shields across the board.
  • Renamed Silver Chain to Exquisite Chain and changed the description a bit to avoid confusion.
  • Made Gumdrop Cookies more obvious when burnt.
  • Stewed Peccary and Mushrooms has been shortened to Peccary Stew.
  • Potatoes can now be planted.
  • There have been several new recipes added for Cheese and Potatoes.
  • Item Stands can now be crafted and will display items. Deployables will display inside their deployable item box, so you will still want to deploy your fun collectibles on their own, typically.
  • Add something wearable, possibly related to "Ebgguh." (Criss made me put this in here, I don't know what it means.)
  • All collectible statues and bobbleheads can no longer lose durability.
  • Removed Fatigue gain from pie slices.
  • Increased harvest quantity of Tomatoes, Potatoes, and Lettuce.
  • Updated texture on Makeshift Bolts.

Accessibility Changes:

  • Arachnophobia now properly hides certain "spider" legs even during effects. If the setting is changed during combat, it will update to the new setting once the entity performs its cloak/attack action.
  • Various localization strings have been updated.
  • Fixed a very specific Russian localization issue, which called a story-critical item by the incorrect name and caused a lot of confusion. Tarasque Ichor is no longer called Tarasque Exor.
  • The P key can now be properly bound and no longer opens the Escape Menu.

Portal World Changes:

  • Rise has received an audio pass, and by that, we mean BWEEEE-OOOOOOOOH BWEEEE-OOOOOOOOH BWEEEE-OOOOOOOOH
  • Removed some Anteverse Wheat in the ground in
  • Fixed durability and other stats being incorrect on the many hats that drop from the undead citizens of Anteverse 23.
  • Fixed a floating-hair issue to the above.
  • Addressed a report of an anomalous floating firearm aboard IS-0138. Dr. Hammond would be pleased, if he didn't have more important things to attend to.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a bug where Duct Tape repair is not useable from containers.
  • Dr. Manse has sent out an email berating the Containment Team for incorrectly filing several entities under the wrong IS number. If you see any erroneous IS numbers, please report them immediately. The only exception is IS-0093, which as you know, is not real.
  • Fixed an issue where the Coworker would be aggressively attracted to the Crafting Bench during night time, despite having no interest in crafting or benches. He has told us many times his favorite hobby is lunchtime and we believe him.
  • Dr. Mayfield previously would stop talking to you at some point, but we've encouraged her to speak her mind, and we personally think she has good, Nobel-prize winning ideas.
  • Fixed an issue with some food items (e.g. potato) not properly updating when cooked.
  • Fixed the way some items are held in third person
  • Fixed stuck spot in the abandoned camp in the Mines.
  • Fixed a hole in a maintenance hallway near the Data Farm.
  • Fixed issues where Scuttlebugs now have proper death effects and no longer show when they are not there (mostly for clients, but sometimes host too)
  • Fixed a crash caused by the Tram's Scientist Retention Field. This change will now reduce the possibility of two passing Trams ending the universe as we know it.
  • Fixed hosting preferences not correctly applying to hosting new games. This should prevent the Singleplayer-But-Not-Singleplayer issue.
  • Vehicle recall procedures now have a higher chance of succeeding. Thank you to all the scientists who submitted their Facilities for teleport anomaly evaluation by the Kinetics Team.
  • Fixed a power socket inside a wall in the Containment wing.
  • Added a fix for first-person arms getting stuck in a weird rotated state, and simply switching hotbar items should resolve this now if it occurs.
  • Various units from The Order will no longer block exit-access on toilet seats when dead. This would be the primary cause for several "I STUCK IN THE TRAIN'S TOILET" reports after using a toilet.
  • Stopped the Server Browser from searching until the menu is actually visible.
  • Fixed a bug where scientists could rejoin after being dead and suddenly find themselves alive with zero hit points.
  • Improved collision on one of the broken forklifts which could cause scientists to get stuck inside it. (Thanks for the report!)
  • Removed kick/ban buttons on F1 player list, since you can't click them and clients shouldn't see them anyway.
  • Made some major fixes to deployables disappearing due to accidental duplication of unique IDs.
  • Completely disabled Motion Blur on all graphics setting levels until we figure out how we want it to work with our art style. Besides, nobody really likes Motion Blur. (This is a joke, please don't write mean things on the forums.)
  • Fixed subtitles getting out of sync when the game is paused.
  • Fixed buff name on Carbuncle Crest.
  • Several items missing icons (indicated by a checkered cube) now have their appropriate icons.
  • Removed The Exor Heart's teleportation for scientists who are sitting or using ladders.
  • Fixed a bug where the driver of a Moveable Cart might get reset to a previous location when moving between areas.
  • Food decay can no longer be repaired at the Repair Bench.
  • Fixed an issue where soup and pie portions were not being set correctly in some instances.
  • Prudent Plucking perk will no longer add additional items on things that aren't even meant to be stackable, such as perk will no longer add additional items on things that aren't even meant to be stackable, such as Antelight plants.
  • Fixed a bug where returning to a previous menu while hosting can corrupt a world save.
  • Fixed various issues with overlapping healing briefcases.
  • Fixed many food items (such as whole pies) showing useless or incorrect hunger/thirst data.
  • Fixed Mashed Potatoes soup recipe.
  • Fixed issues with Homey Pasta and Stewed Peccary soups.
  • Fixed Antepasta turning soup toxic.
  • Fixed floating buckles on the Rat Suit.
  • Fixed some floating concrete barricades in Manufacturing West.
  • Fixed several holes in the floor throughout the Facility. (Thanks for the reports!)
  • Added additional safeguards to early-game in regards to running out of duct tape or tech scrap before crafting the correct items.
  • Fixed an issue were Trams would destroy furniture above or below them, violating several laws of physics.
  • Fixed some typos in journals and subtitles.
  • Removed a poorly-timed and confusing Journal entry in the Labs.
  • Fixed a spot where reality would unload when walking atop one of the containment cells.
  • Reduced the frequency of doors being manipulated by unknown entities.
  • Fixed a blank icon in the Journal sector map.
  • Fixed an issue where entities respawns were not properly keeping track of their cooldowns which could cause early or late respawns.
  • Fixed an issue where the durability on a Robot Charging Pod would prevent it from spawning properly.
  • Fixed an issue where entities would use their secondary spawn locations instead of the first one, even when seeing them for the first time. This would result in cases where entities are not in the correct place for teaching player mechanics early on, and so on.
  • Fixed a bug where stamina would get in a weird state after using Heavy Melee Weapons.
  • Fixed some audio that was not properly redacted. Sorry, the answer is never Nebraska.

Abiotic Factor Update Patch Notes May 12

Hotfix 0.8.0.9803 May 6

Stoves, servers, saves and more!
Greetings!
The weekend has come and gone so it’s time for us to serve up another hotfix!
But before we get to that, THANK YOU AGAIN! Launch day went incredibly but this weekend you all absolutely blew us out of the water! All of your feedback, positive reviews and kind words fueled the whole team and we are all amped up to get working on continuing to improve and add to the game with your ideas in mind.
Not to be greedy but if you do have a spare review lying around feel free to chuck it on over! We’d love to hear from you and to continue shoveling them into the maw of our terrifying algorithmic lord.
Now, onto the juicy stuff!

HOTFIX 0.8.0.9803

You'll know you're on the right version because the above version will match the one at the bottom of your screen while in the main menu and in-game.

Keypad Hacker Note:

  • Some scientists are reporting that their Keypad Hacker has gone missing. Please make sure you check your Keypad Hacker slot in your equip slots (bottom left) if you shift click to move your Keypad Hacker from your inventory to your hot bar it may end up there instead, as intended. Your Keypad Hacker is not going missing it is actually going to the correct location.
  • If your Keypad Hacker is in your Hacker slot you simply need to press interact on the keypad to get it to work.

Containment Bulletin:

  • There have been increased reports of activity from IS-0091. Science help us all. As always, researchers; if you see it, report it!

Temporal Correction Warning:

  • GATE scientists have detected a mistake in the temporal flow, a strange disruption in time and space allowing scientists to venture into hidden portal worlds and skip content unintentionally. This has been corrected in the following ways.
  • Additional security measures have been added to the Laser Lab. However, something has grown over top of those security measures, and we don't want to touch it, so we'll leave it to you.
  • If you have previously accessed the Laser Lab in an existing world save, or are currently in the Laser Lab after updating to this version, this new growth will likely not be an issue, but future world saves will encounter these hurdles.
  • A properly locked door has been added to a very high up catwalk in Labs.

Server Browser Updates:

  • The Server Browser has received several filter options and a search bar to help you find your friends (or enemies.)
  • Server Browser names are now trimmed if too long, instead of spilling over into the rest of the UI like an uncontained growth.
  • The server browser has been massively optimized. Thank you for playing and hosting so many servers that it became an actual problem to solve. Much love from everyone here at Deep Field.

World Save Backups:

  • World Saves now create a backup when hosting from the main menu.
  • This backup can be used to recover corrupt world progress. We are still investigating a rolling backup.
  • If your world is corrupt, a button that says "RESTORE BACKUP" will appear. This can fail in very bad cases, but should help in some.
  • We are aware that world corruption and item loss are rare but very major issues when they occur, and they remain our top priorities. Please keep submitting bugs (and your world save data) through the Issue Report Form.

Player Corpse Changes:

  • We investigated a lot of reports about bodies becoming stuck in places that players can't access. We've made the following changes to correct this.
  • If the player corpse location has bad data, it would previously default to the death location, which is often unsafe or unreachable. If this happens now, the corpse will try to return with the player to their respawn location.
  • If this fails, the corpse will move to the Cafeteria in the Office Sector.
  • Upon rehosting a server, ALL corpses that are not looted will appear in the Office Cafeteria as well. If you can't find your corpse, there's a good chance it ended up there.

The Stove Stuff:

  • We've noted some players have experienced pots and pans being lost from stoves. Let's quickly talk about how this happened and what you need to be aware of.
  • Stoves had bad data on them due to a bug with stove state saving that slipped under our radar. We're a small team and we only found the issue once 7000 people started playing at once. When we fixed this issue in the latest hotfix, old stoves from older saves still had that corrupt data, but new stoves did not. This caused players' items to go missing, or appear to go missing, when they interacted with the stove.
  • For the deployable stoves, repackaging them and redeploying them (if possible) would fix this issue. For the fixed stoves, this was not possible, so those stoves will still be exhibiting this problem.
  • In this update, all stoves from existing saves will now dump out pots and pans. You may see a slight overabundance of these items in the form of some bags on stoves, so go scoop them up and enjoy this crockware compensation.
  • We believe we have corrected the issues laid out here, but we are getting some reports here and there. We are unsure if those are people playing on old versions or not, so please report anything else that happens outside of what was explained here and please include your version number. Thank you, and happy cooking!

General Changes:

  • Recipes on HUD have shrunk a bit. Remember, you can clear any auto-pinned recipes in your crafting screen if you want them out of the way!
  • We hear a certain trader is now willing to give you Welding Masks, if you've got what he needs in return.
  • Added some new paint to the Trader deposit box.
  • Throwable Nets now salvage into paper scrap, if you really want to get rid of them.
  • A few key enemies will now always drop their gib loot, instead of bio scrap.
  • Added drop-shadow to text chat to improve readability.
  • Grenade weights are now better balanced across all grenade types.
  • All items now take only 1 of their Repair Item to repair, instead of several. We are working on more repair improvements but they will be bundled together in a general repair quality-of-life update.
  • Empty liquid containers no longer show red in the item slot background, because this was misleading players into thinking the item was broken, instead of just empty.
  • Sneaking XP is now a bit easier to gain, is gained at a faster rate and from further range.
  • Lime Paint, Green Paint, and Carapace Arm armor recipes are now obtainable. You may find some new items associated with these recipes, but they're probably nothing to pick up your quill and write home about.
  • The initial welcome and analytics opt-in screen has now been localized for all available languages.

World Changes:

  • The Security Office on Offices Level 2 has had a timer installed on the shutters, for safety reasons.
  • IS-0018 should no longer have a chance to break when packaging it. We still don't recommend packaging it.
  • Some researchers have reported IS-0018 reappearing in its containment cell after it has been moved or destroyed. Someone should check that out.
  • A certain door by the Synchrotron will now unlock after the ███████████████ event, making it easier to access the room. Frake apologizes for making you walk all the way around. Who knew she had the keys the whole time!
  • Some previously non-interactable water in the Labs is now interactable.
  • A previously inaccessible vent near the Enders Containment Block is now accessible.
  • Some GATE staff may have carelessly left a sledgehammer aboard IS-0138.
  • A shipping container in the Induction Wing is reported to have contained some mining equipment, for those on the hunt for a new pickaxe.

Dedicated Server Changes:

  • Plants and other items will no longer decay when no one is present on the server. Plants will still grow for a time, however, and may need water when scientists return to their crops.
  • Reduced some logging spam and improved our ability going forward to provide good log data to server hosts.

Bug Fixes:

  • Updated some voice lines on certain Order enemies, mostly around connecting them to the correct volume sliders.
  • Filled a few holes in the Wildlife Pens.
  • Metal Bucket now has proper metal bucket texture. Who would've thought?
  • Fixed a logical issue that could cause sinks to not refill properly over time, as intended, under normal settings.
  • Fixed the AA setting not actually setting AA unless visiting a terminal.
  • Fixed an issue affecting the drop rate of Order weaponry.
  • Wherever the Wristwatch's watch-face was running off to, we think we've resolved that problem and it should remain happy and content where it belongs - on your wrist.
  • Hovering over the little blue-purple (blurple?) icon on recipes now works again and will display a helpful tooltip.
  • The Breachers will now cough up their shotguns, helmets and other belongings, if you force them to.
  • Deployed signs can no longer be used as bridges. If you have any bridges made of signs, no you do not.

Onward -- to science.

Hotfix 0.8.0.9781 May 3

So it begins.
Greetings!
It's time for our very first update to Abiotic Factor since it launched on Early Access in the wee hours of yesterday morn (that's in Cascade time, of course.)
First, THANK YOU all for the incredible launch. We are already sitting at 98% overwhelmingly positive reviews, and we are blown away. Please continue leaving reviews - you know that's the magic nonsense the algorithmic old gods demand from us all.
A massive thank you to everyone who picked up the game and those who have webbed, weaved, and wiggled their way through the GATE Cascade Research Facility. We are incredibly humbled at the response, but not so humbled that we can't put on our best mad scientist goggles and control your destiny at a whim in the form of a delicious hotfix!
Delicious, you say? Boy, I hope it's pizza friday. Ahem, anyway, what DID we change in this hotfix? Let's find out -- together.

HOTFIX 0.8.0.9781

You'll know you're on the right version because the above version will match the one at the bottom of your screen while in the main menu and in-game.

General Changes:

  • Garden Plants now decay much much slower when they don't have water. (Plant Durability is now 350, up from 70)
  • IS-0053-B has started to exhibit new and strange properties when drunk. Please observe proper containment procedures and follow all signage for the safety of you and your fellow coworkers.
  • Improved visual clarity and reduced text ghosting while viewing emails located on Terminals.
  • Added additional images that can appear when viewing the Story Progress of a given server in the server browser.
  • Reduced the overall size of the gun reticle (laser dot) at distance. This dot will shrink some as you level up Accuracy skill, but now the base size is a bit smaller.
  • Tamed Pests released from Pest Wheels will no longer try to immediately return and will instead behave more like tamed Pests released from Pest Traps.
  • We tried to remove the Coworker but he would not leave so we're just going to let him stay for now.

Accessibility & Settings Changes:

  • Pagers now have a volume knob, which can be accessed via the Audio Settings menu.
  • Added anti-aliasing options to the Graphics Settings menu.
  • New Accessibility Option: Loud Ambient Sounds. On by default, disable this to no longer hear extra spooky sounds around the place. This will not affect other players hearing those sounds.
  • Adjusted several of the aforementioned loud ambient sounds.

Bug Fixes:

  • We've loosened up the joints on the Armor Stand skeleton and it should now strike poses as science intended.
  • Scientists can no longer skip their first day of work by jumping out of the vehicle early during the introduction.
  • The medium-skill Scrapshot reload now has sound effects.
  • Removed erroneous trait points number on the Job Selection screen.
  • Fixed an issue where dedicated servers would indicate they had modified sandbox settings when they did not.
  • Cooking pots are now added back to player inventory after becoming empty from soup, if the player has room.
  • Your last selected hosting options now persist between sessions, meaning whatever you selected last will remain.
  • Fixed a bug where scientists were spontaneously generating ammunition when unloading weapons from containers.
  • Improved the reliability of properly saving items on carts, vehicles, and trams.
  • Fixed potential save issues and disappearing pot issues with Stoves, portable and otherwise.
  • NOTE: If you have issues with a deployed stove, please package it and put it down again, this may help with those issues. There may be other issues here and we are still investigating it. We have top scientists on the job.
  • Perk Tooltips should no longer get stuck on screen when closing the Skill menu while hovering over a tooltip.
  • Pest Cages are no longer playing sounds in 2D.
  • Ironman and Hardcore mode options removed from Sandbox Settings. They were not meant to be there. Pretend they are still not there. Maybe they'll come back some day. Maybe the guy in charge of not shipping the game with these options is getting put in a containment cell. There's a lot of questions around this, who knows why things are the way they are. It's really a big mystery, when you think about it.
  • Scientists finding themselves in a certain far-flung fungal foliage, while flinging themselves from the fringe, they will no longer be falling forever into the Anteversian abyss, and will instead simply die.
  • Scientists should no longer fuse together when trying to use a moveable cart or any other vehicle at the same time.
  • Scientists have now figured out how to use sinks and other water containers while holding flashlights and other devices when their battery is empty. It's amazing what you can achieve when you think around a problem.
  • Soup Recipes that have been learned should now properly show up in the Compendium.
  • There is now a timeout if Bruce refuses to acknowledge your presence in the introduction. He's a busy man, sometimes he just doesn't pay attention to the little things. Sorry about that.
  • Fixed an issue where elevator buttons could become inoperable due to saving and loading at just the wrong time. Or the right time, depending on how you look at it.
  • Anteverse Wheat and other things that grant XP when collected will no longer give XP every time they're attempted to be collected, and instead will only give XP when the collection succeeds.
  • Performing the Greet emote should no longer hide the weapon in your hand to other scientists. This feels more natural, and disappearing weapons are scary and unknown. We're scientists, not ghost hunters! Not yet anyway.

We also demonstrated our expertise in making video games by breaking some stove-saving stuff in Hotfix .9777, so here are the changes in our second tiny Hotfix 0.8.0.9781.

  • Fixed an issue where stoves would randomly lose their stovetop items. Please continue to report any strange stove behavior to the nearest GATE authority.
  • GATE's architectural department has added some concrete flooring to a few precarious elevators to help prevent unfortunate falls of both personnel and property.
  • You can now take a nice nap with your Coworker.
  • There were reported anomalies with Televisions sets spontaneously duplicating themselves. The kinetics team has looked into it and isolated a rogue portal event causing this issue. It should no longer occur.
  • Potential fix for Cooking Pots not getting the correct stoveware type on Dedicated Servers.

If you are interested in KNOWN ISSUES, click here.
Thank you all once again for enjoying the GATE Cascade Research Facility.
The team is now taking a brief and well-deserved weekend nap (probably) and we will begin our regular patching and update cycle, aiming to bring more quality of life fixes, balance, and the occasional feature or three. And yes, we're even going to look at adding more functionality to the Server Browser.
We're gathering a lot of feedback, and we're very excited to put it to use. Keep reporting bugs, leaving us feedback, and helping each other out in the community.
Onward -- to science.

Those are the recent patch notes up through May 6 for Abiotic Factor.

Game Night: Hack Up Victorian Zombies in ‘Withering Rooms’

I went into Withering Rooms blind, but thought I’d figured it out after the first 5 minutes. You play as a young girl who’s dreaming that she’s under attack by monsters, who’s forced to hide, run, or outwit them if she wants to stay alive. I assumed this would be another “small child in big scary world” game, like Inside or Little Nightmares, and I’d spend the next 8 hours cowering under a table.

It turned out that was only the tutorial. After exactly two (2) harrowing chase sequences, your character Nightingale stops running, picks up a meat cleaver, and goes full monster hunter from that point forward. I respect it. Take notes, Outlast.

Withering Rooms, by Seattle studio Moonless Formless, is one of those indie games that’s perched between several different subgenres. If I had to sum it up in one long burst of hobby-specific terminology, it’s a 2D roguelike survival horror Metroidvania with some Soulslike flavor. More importantly, it’s a Victorian haunted-house story with some truly crazy plot twists, bound up inside a flexible action-RPG.

In 1892 Wales, Nightingale Williams is the latest patient at the Mostyn House, a country estate that’s been turned into an asylum for girls. On her first night there, she has a dream that she’s trapped inside a nightmare version of the manor.

Nightingale soon discovers that for unknown reasons, anyone who goes to sleep in or near the Mostyn House has the same dream. Every night, both the staff and patients at the clinic end up in an alternate version of the House where the sun never rises, the dead walk, and magic is real. As Nightingale learns how to use that magic, she walks face-first into a conspiracy that reaches back into the waking world, as well as the secret of what created the dream.

At the start of the game, Nightingale is unarmed and empty-handed. As you explore the Mostyn House, you can gather weapons, tools, and resources while fighting off zombies, crazed witches, and a host of weirder monsters. When you die, the map resets and you lose everything.

As you get further into the game, you gradually unlock more tools that persist through death, as well as a series of shrines that let you “remember” a single item. Even then, death is a big setback.

That makes it sound like you should avoid fights, but dead enemies drop body parts that you need for quests and upgrades. You’re supposed to be killing everything you see, but you also have to pick your battles carefully. Most monsters will take your head off in a straight-up fight, so the key is to cheat as hard as you can.

Early on, that means using distractions to decoy monsters into ambushes and traps. Later, as you get better weapons, spells, and crafting schematics, you can use improvised explosives, alchemical solutions, and throwing knives. You’re a teenage girl and they’re murder zombies; this fight was never fair in the first place.

That’s where the survival horror really kicks in, as a lot of Withering Rooms’ midgame is about resource management. You’re trying to take enemies out as cheaply as you can, because you’re never more than one or two mistakes away from death.

I’m ordinarily not a big fan of games with this sort of deliberately steep difficulty curve, but Withering Rooms gives you a lot of flexibility in how you approach any given situation. You can absolutely play it like a Soulslike and dodge-roll your way to victory, but by the time you reach Chapter 2, you’ve got enough spells, potions, weapons, and types of armor that you can come up with a lot of different and effective game plans. Personally, I prefer to throw bombs at monsters from behind my wall of disposable summoned minions, because all I’ve ever wanted out of life is an unfair advantage.

The real star of this game, however, is the Mostyn House, which has to do with a particular game mechanic. Whenever you cast spells or get struck by certain attacks, Nightingale gets increasingly cursed. At low levels, this is actually useful, because it lets you see things that would otherwise invisible. If you max out your curse, though, you’re hit with a potentially lethal damage-over-time effect.

At about the halfway point, your curse also starts to bleed over into the environment. At that point, the Mostyn House turns into a carnival of horrors that might be the single most impressive part of Withering Rooms. You get to watch as the walls bleed, the lights die, and the furniture gets replaced by statues or covered corpses or industrial decay. It’s Silent Hill by way of Edward Gorey, where the whole building feels like a fist closing around you, and it’s almost worth the price of admission by itself.

The only real flaw I’d point to with Withering Rooms is one that didn’t occur to me until I sat down to write this, and it’s Nightingale herself. Even for a silent protagonist, she’s barely involved in the story, to the point where I don’t understand what motivates her for the first half of the game. She simply floats from one task from the next. It feels like dream logic, which makes sense in context, but it’s strange that I have no idea what Nightingale actually wants to accomplish here.

Other than that, and I’ll be the first to tell you it’s a really minor criticism, Withering Rooms succeeds at everything it tries to do. A lot of games have tried to go for the Soulslike tough-but-fair approach in the last few years, but Withering Rooms also manages to be creepy, memorable, and accessible. If you can get past its difficult opening hour, it’ll draw you in until the end.

[Withering Rooms, developed by Moonless Formless and published by Perp Games, is available now on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This review was written using a Steam code sent to Hard Drive by a Perp Games PR representative.]
