AEW News: Swerve Strickland defends his title against Christian Cage

AEW News: Swerve Strickland has emerged victorious in his latest AEW Championship defence against Christian Cage.

Cage was confirmed as the challenger a few weeks ago on Dynamite by The Young Bucks, who seemed to initially tease that it would be Kenny Omega heading to the ring to face the former WWE NXT Superstar.

AEW News: Swerve beats Cage

Swerve had a Warriors (the film) themed entrance and gear that was really cool, but this match came three and a half hours into the show.

After much interference, Swerve took the win with the House Call following the Double Stomp from the top rope.

Here are all of the matches taking place on the AEW DoN 2024 card:

  • AEW World Trios Title / ROH World Six Man Tag Team Title Match: Bang Bang Gang (Austin Gunn, Colten Gunn & Jay White) (c) vs Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo & Rey Fenix) (w/Alex Abrahantes)

AEW News: Mercedes Mone wins first title since joining All Elite

AEW News: Mercedes Mone has won the TBS Championship from Willow Nightingale during tonight’s Double or Nothing 2024 PPV event.

This was the first match that Mone has had in All Elite, but not the first since she left her role as Sasha Banks in WWE, as she was also in New Japan Pro Wrestling prior to signing with AEW.

AEW News: Mercedes Mone beats Willow Nightingale

There were duelling chants early on in this one, which shocked me because I thought Willow was going in as the ultra-hot babyface.

Mercedes acted like a total heel throughout the contest, so the company have clearly figured out what she needs to be going forward (and rightly).

Mone managed to hit her finisher in the middle to take the win and the TBS Championship in her first match with All Elite Wrestling.

AEW News: Adam Copeland and Malakai Black have BRUTAL barbed wire cage match

AEW News: Adam Copeland and Malakai Black had a barbed wire cage match for the TNT Championship at Double or Nothing.

As expected, the match was absolutely brutal, with Copeland giving everything he could in a match that could well define his legacy in All Elite outside of WWE.

AEW News: Adam Copeland vs Malakai Black Result

Copeland had Slayer as his entrance music and ‘The Brood’ written on the tron for his entrance, and that was very cool. I hoped Gangrel would show up but there you go.

Buddy Matthews and Brody King appeared at one point and teased aligning with Copeland (to a huge reaction from the crowd) before then attacking him.

THEN GANGREL APPEARED FROM UNDER THE RING!

Copeland would get the win by wrapping barbed wire around Malakai’s face whilst holding him in a crossface, causing Black to pass out.

AEW News: IWGP Championship eliminatior match result confirmed

AEW News: The IWGP Championship Eliminator match on the Double or Nothing 2024 PPV card is now over, but who won?

IWGP Champion Jon Moxley faced Konosuke Takeshita in a match where if the DDT star Takeshita won, he would then get a shot at the title at some point in the future.

AEW News: IWGP Championship Eliminator Match Result

This was certainly a match, but it’s gone 3 am where I live and I’m tired so this really didn’t need to be on the show and would’ve been a great Dynamite main event.

The crowd got into it though, so respect to these two guys for pulling that off in a pretty nothing match in the grand scheme of things.

Oh yeah, Moxley won after hitting a Stomp on a chair and then the Death Rider DDT.

AEW News: Chris Jericho retains FTW Championship at DoN

AEW News: Chris Jericho successfully defended his FTW Championship at the Double or Nothing 2024 PPV event tonight.

‘The Learning Tree’ defended against HOOK and Japanese wrestling legend Katsuyori Shibata, and whilst there wasn’t a ton of hype heading into the match, it did deliver.

AEW News: Chris Jericho wins at All Elite Wrestling DoN

This was quite a fun match, with Jericho at one point teasing that he had thumbtacks in a bag but it actually turned out to be dice that everyone threw at each other sporadically for the rest of the bout.

Jericho would get the win to retain the title after Bryan Keith interfered.

AEW News: Orange Cassidy gets the win over Trent Beretta

AEW News: Trent Beretta had a big character shift after turning heel against the Best Friends stable, attacking Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor.

That led to a match between Orange and Beretta at the Double or Nothing PPV event, which has just concluded.

AEW News: Trent Beretta beats Orange Cassidy

Cassidy made his entrance to the Pixies’ ‘Where Is My Mind’ which was a cool throwback and the crowd absolutely HATED Beretta after everything he has done for the last few weeks.

Orange would end up getting the pinfall win with a rollup.

AEW News: Toni Storm beats Serena Deeb at Double or Nothing 2024

AEW News: Toni Storm defended her AEW Women’s Championship against Serena Deeb at Double or Nothing 2024 tonight.

‘Timeless’ Storm has been on the run of her career recently, and she was pretty much always going to be walking out of this one with the win.

AEW News: Toni Storm victorious again

The crowd were massively behind Storm for the entire match, and she worked the majority of it as the babyface for pretty much the first time during her ‘Timeless’ run.

Toni hit two Storm Zero Piledrivers to take the win and retain her title.

The AEW Trios Tag Team Championships were on the line, and Jay White & the Gunns successfully held onto their gold.

AEW News: Bang Bang Gang retain titles

This match had the unenviable task of going on after MJF had made his massive return, so it took some time for the crowd to get invested.

Jay White would get the win for the Bang Bang Gang when Juice Robinson made a shock return and knocked PAC off the top rope.

AEW News: MJF returns to All Elite Wrestling

AEW News: All Elite Wrestling star MJF made his return to the company during the Double or Nothing Pay Per View event.

Adam Cole, a former friend of Maxwell Jacob Friedman (before he turned on him just a few months ago) came to the ring to cut a promo in front of the live crowd before a vignette played.

The screen showed a POV video of MJF walking into a room and then looking at a ripped up image of he and Cole, before Maxwell’s music then hit and he appeared in front of the live crowd.

AEW News: MJF returns to AEW

Maxwell would then hug Cole but then kick him between the legs before cutting a promo on his former tag team partner as he was dragged out of the ring.

AEW News: Did Will Ospreay win at Double or Nothing?

AEW News: Will Ospreay challenged for the AEW International Championship at the Double or Nothing 2024 PPV, but did he win?

The match with Roderick Strong was set up weeks ago, with the Undisputed Kingdom stable being a thorn in the side of the former NJPW star ahead of his big title match.

AEW News: Will Ospreay vs Roderick Strong Result

Ospreay and Strong opened the night and the British star got a massive ovation from the crowd in Las Vegas. He is clearly a future World Champion in All Elite and will probably get the gold in London when we hit August.

The Undisputed Kingdom got involved as expected, but referee Bryce Remsburg would end up kicking them out a few minutes in.

Ospreay would end up hitting the Stormbreaker to get the 1, 2, 3 to become the NEW AEW International Champion.
