The Batman: Arkham Trilogy released on Nintendo Switch on December 1st managed to win the ‘Most Broken at Launch’ category for the second time, after previously winning in 2015.
“This was a really competitive category this year,” Said Presenter Geoff Keighley while introducing the nominees. “You had the PC release of The Last of Us Part I, which managed to both look and run poorly even on top shelf hardware. You also had the PC port of Jedi: Survivor, which is the worst PC release since the original Final Fantasy 7, but the Game Award has to go to the Switch port of Arkham Knight. This thing runs so fucking terribly it’s a wonder it looks as bad as it does.”
The Devs responsible for the port gave a heartwarming speech while accepting the award.
“When we won this award for the PC version of the game back in 2015, we were definitely surprised. I mean, we removed the game from storefronts for four months, but we were competing against some real industry titans, like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Fallout 4,” said one dev while his graphic tee failed to load a higher resolution texture.
“We really went all in on this port. We completely removed ambient occlusion so everything looks as flat and lifeless as possible, and those water effects from the original release that everybody absolutely adores? Those are completely gone as well. We made sure the framerate was as motion-sickness inducing as possible, with incredibly inconsistent frame times and even worse freezing and stuttering. We at Rocksteady are all so proud that we were able to make so many gamers incredibly disappointed, and we’re honored to receive this award again.”
