Overwatch 2 features a number of different currencies to be earned or purchased in game. These currencies also have a bunch of different uses like buying items from the in-game store or purchasing Golden Guns for your Heroes. Here is how to earn Overwatch Coins in Overwatch 2.
How to Unlock Overwatch Coins in Overwatch 2
There are two main ways to gain Overwatch Coins in Overwatch 2. First, they can be unlocked by completing Weekly Challenges. Second, they can be unlocked by purchasing them from the in-game store.
Weekly Challenges reset every week, of course, offering 11 different Challenges for players to complete. Each of these Challenges award 5,000 Battle Pass XP upon completion. To earn Overwatch Coins from these Challenges, players will need to complete at least 4 Weekly Challenges each week. The first 4 completed Challenges awards 30 Overwatch Coins, completing 8 Weekly Challenges awards an additional 20 Overwatch Coins, and finishing all 11 Weekly Challenges awards an additional 10 Overwatch Coins. This means the max amount of Overwatch Coins a player can earn per week is 60. Considering most shop items are upwards of 1,000 Overwatch Coins, this is an incredibly slow process.
If you aren’t interested in earning them, you can always purchase them. The Overwatch 2 in-game store offers a variety of purchase options that are always available. As of the writing of this article, bundles of Overwatch Coins are available for as low as $5 and as high as $100.
Unlike many other free to play games with Battle Passes, Overwatch 2 does not offer any of its premium currency as a reward for completing tiers in the Battle Pass. Players’ options are limited to a painfully slow grind or to open up their wallets. Blizzard has received a lot of backlash from the community for their monetization practices with Overwatch 2, so perhaps some changes to this system will come in the future, but for now players will just have to hope!
